VANCOUVER, BC (November 27, 2025): NGIF Accelerator is pleased to announce a second funding commitment of $344,247 to Hydron Energy, supporting the pilot demonstration of its innovative INTRUPTor™ solution for single-stage, low-cost landfill biogas upgrading.
The pilot demonstration will take place at the Bailey Landfill in Chilliwack, B.C., in partnership with FortisBC and the City of Chilliwack, furthering efforts to convert landfill gas into renewable natural gas (RNG) and promote sustainable energy solutions. Hydron Energy was among the finalists in the recent NGIF Accelerator Cleantech Challenge, the industry grants competition held last year.
Hydron Energy, based in North Vancouver, has developed the Intensified Regenerative Upgrading Platform Technology (INTRUPTor™)—a disruptive technology poised to transform multiple sectors within the gas separation and upgrading industry. The INTRUPTor™ platform has already been commercialized for producing RNG from anaerobic digesters, wastewater treatment facilities, and landfills. Using a biomimicry-inspired process that operates under ambient conditions, the INTRUPTor™ simplifies plant design and fabrication, reduces capital and operating costs by up to 50%, and delivers 80% lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional technologies.

The upcoming demonstration will showcase the INTRUPTor’s ability to upgrade landfill biogas in a single stage under ambient conditions. Unlike conventional technologies, which require multiple stages to remove nitrogen and other contaminants, the INTRUPTor™ effectively addresses challenges posed by landfills, such as additional VOCs, siloxanes, nitrogen, and oxygen. By providing a cost-effective, single-stage solution, Hydron Energy is setting a new standard for landfill biogas upgrading and contributing to Canada’s lower-emission energy future.
“Hydron Energy’s INTRUPTor™ technology represents an exciting step forward in landfill biogas upgrading and renewable natural gas production. This funding commitment reflects our confidence in their innovative approach and the significant potential their technology holds to advance the energy sector,” said John Adams, President and CEO, NGIF Accelerator. “Our Industry Grants program and its focus on de-risking technologies through field trials and pilots are part of NGIF’s integrated model of industry validation, customer creation, and technology commercialization.”
“Hydron’s demonstration project at the Bailey Landfill is a critical step in showcasing the INTRUPTor™ system’s ability to efficiently remove nitrogen as well as carbon dioxide and upgrade biogas to renewable natural gas (RNG) in a single stage at a significantly reduced cost,” said Soheil Khiavi, CEO of Hydron Energy. “Our technology is the only landfill biogas upgrading system capable of achieving price parity with fossil fuels. The continued support from NGIF Accelerator has been instrumental in our commercialization journey, this marks the second project they’ve helped fund. Our solution will lower emissions, create jobs across Canada, and drive progress across the energy sector. We’re deeply grateful for NGIF Accelerator’s commitment to supporting innovative Canadian companies like ours.”
“Canadians want and need the affordable, reliable, and lower-emission energy service offering they have come to expect from the natural gas industry. When we created NGIF, it was our vision to bring the entire natural gas value chain together to support development that enhances environmental and economic performance for the sector. I am glad to see our vision in action as NGIF continues to support innovations like Hydron Energy’s INTRUPTor™,” said Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO, Canadian Gas Association, and Chair, NGIF Capital Corporation.
Industry Grants’ Participants and Project Partners

About Industry Grants program
The Industry Grants program is industry-led and offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will accelerate technology readiness level progressions through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization.
About NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital and operates all technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It will coordinate with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre program.
About Hydron Energy Inc.
Hydron Energy is a British Columbia (B.C.)-based company that was formed in 2020 helping hard-to-abate sectors, such as transportation and industry, meet future energy demands and net-zero goals. The company is providing novel low-emission energy solutions for various gas upgrading applications at a lower cost and with less carbon emissions.
About Canadian Gas Association
The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) is the voice of Canada’s gas energy delivery industry, including natural gas, renewable natural gas (RNG), and hydrogen. Its members are distribution and transmission companies, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, and other service providers. Today, natural gas meets almost 40 percent of the country’s energy needs.
