NGIF Marks a Decade of Innovation in Canada’s Natural Gas Sector

January 15, 2026

CALGARY, AB (January 15)As NGIF enters 2026, the organization proudly marks its 10-year anniversary, celebrating a decade of building one of Canada’s leading platforms for cleantech commercialization and investment across the natural gas value chain.

Founded in 2016 as the Natural Gas Innovation Fund, NGIF was established to accelerate the deployment of technologies that improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen energy security. Today, that vision has evolved into an integrated innovation ecosystem combining industry- and government-funded technology demonstration with early-stage venture investment.

Over the past decade, NGIF Accelerator has supported technologies from concept through pilot, demonstration, and commercial deployment. Through its industry-led programs, including the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) and Industry Grants, NGIF has engaged with more than 1,000 entrepreneurs, helping innovators validate performance, de-risk adoption, and advance commercialization.

Complementing these efforts, NGIF Capital’s Cleantech Ventures Fund I is a strategic venture fund with energy company Limited Partners investing primarily in early-stage cleantech companies. To date, the fund has invested in 14 companies advancing energy security, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction technologies across natural gas production, transmission, distribution, storage, end-use applications, and low-cost hydrogen production.

“NGIF has spent the last decade closing the gap between technology development and real-world deployment,” said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Capital and NGIF Accelerator. “By combining demonstration, validation, and disciplined early-stage investment, we help technologies move faster from innovation to impact, delivering measurable environmental and operational value.”

Looking ahead, NGIF remains focused on scaling high-impact technologies, investing in the next generation of energy innovators, and delivering long-term value for industry partners, governments, and investors. Building on its first decade, NGIF will continue to expand its platform to accelerate adoption and support the commercialization of critical energy solutions in Canada and globally.
