Global Cleantech Challenge (GCC) Awards Ceremony Recap: Celebrating Innovation in the Natural Gas Sector

June 20, 2024

A month ago, we came together to celebrate the innovative and promising cleantech startups selected to transform the natural gas industry at the GCC Award Ceremony during the IGRC2024 in Banff.

NGIF Accelerator’s Global Cleantech Challenge was launched in 2023 by our Industry Grants program in collaboration with the International Gas Union and IGRC2024 to fund startups with emissions reduction solutions to be tested through a project in Canada.

With over 150 startup applicants from across the globe and through an industry peer review process, 17 finalists were selected.

Thank you to our industry members, the NGIF team, and all the startups who applied. Together, we are driving innovation forward for cleaner natural gas.

Trican
Frac pumpers are large fuel consumers that emit large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Current fracturing equipment in Alberta is typically powered by diesel-based or bi-fuel (diesel & natural gas) bolt-on kit (Tier 2) engines. Trican’s Caterpillar Tier 4 Dynamic Gas Blending engine proposes to displace up to 85% of diesel with natural gas. The goal of field testing at ETC is to understand the performance of the Tier 4 Engines during operations in Canada. This includes, but is not limited to, diesel displacement performance during seasonal conditions, validation of the low emissions fracturing spread, and emissions performance compared to diesel and Tier 2 enginess.
