NGIF Accelerator Awards $159,000 to Global Power Technologies For Advancing Methane Reduction Technology

CALGARY, AB (August 11, 2026): NGIF Accelerator continues to demonstrate leadership in methane mitigation through the Methane Reduction Demonstration Program (MRDP), with a grant funding announcement of $159,000 to Global Power Technologies (GPT) for the optimization of their thermoelectric generator (TEG) developed for destroying intermittent methane emissions from natural gas operations.
MRDP Funding comes from the Government of Alberta’s industry-funded Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) regulation and the NGIF Accelerator industry member-funded Industry Grants program. The project will leverage GPT’s advanced TEG technology to produce power from intermittent vent sources while achieving a methane destruction efficiency of 99.9%.

The system is designed to specifically address fragmented vent sources, providing operators with an auditable record of methane destruction and offering a cost-effective approach to reducing emissions from dispersed vent sources. The project will help the industry meet evolving regulatory requirements and transition toward non-emitting solutions.
Currently, the technology is undergoing comprehensive testing at GPT’s facility with plans to initiate field trials at NGIF’s industry member sites, including ARC Resources, Canadian Natural Resources Limited, and Tourmaline, in early 2027, with commercial deployment anticipated by the end of that year.

The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector.
