NGIF Accelerator Awards Funding to Forefront Energy to Advance Zero-Emission Power Solutions for the Energy Sector.
July 23, 2026
POUCE COUPE, BC (July 23, 2026): As part of its commitment to reduce methane emissions across the natural gas value chain, NGIF Accelerator, through the Methane Reduction Demonstration Program (MRDP), is proud to announce $381,430.50 in grant funding to Forefront Energy (Forefront) to advance the development of its Zero Emissions Generator (ZEG), a novel power system that converts the natural pressure of a gas well into usable electricity without combustion or fuel consumption.
Supported by the Government of Alberta and NGIF’s industry members through the MRDP, Forefront’s ZEG harnesses waste pressure energy to provide a reliable, on-site power source for wellsite operations. This allows operators to replace conventional fuel-based generation and reduce both methane venting and CO₂ emissions.

A finalist of the MRDP, Forefront’s ZEG, when integrated with venting mitigation systems, enables fully emissions-free power and control at the wellsite, resulting in reduced operating costs and supporting producers in meeting environmental and regulatory requirements.
Forefront’s patented technology is currently in field demonstration at an active gas well in Northeastern British Columbia, with testing underway since November 2025. The project aims to advance the ZEG from Technology Readiness Level 7 to commercial availability by Q4 2027, with plans to deploy across various wellsite configurations.
“Alberta’s proven approach to methane reductions is simple: focus on practical solutions, support industry adoption and deliver results. Innovative, made-in-Alberta technologies are lowering costs, creating jobs and reducing emissions today while keeping industry competitive and strengthening Alberta’s energy sector for the future.” Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas.
“This project exemplifies how industry and innovation can work together to reduce environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency,” said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Accelerator. “Through our programs, NGIF Accelerator helps de-risk emerging technologies through field trials and pilot projects, accelerating industry validation, customer adoption, and commercialization.”
“The ZEG is a gamechanger for energy producers looking to eliminate emissions without sacrificing reliability. This project with NGIF and the MRDP will allow us to validate and scale a solution that directly aligns with Canada’s clean energy goals,” says Jen Simmons, CEO of Forefront Energy. “Our mission is to provide practical, cost-effective alternatives to emitting wellsite power systems, and this funding brings us one step closer to making zero-emission operations a reality.”
Industry Grants’ Participants and Project Partners
About Industry Grants program The Industry Grants programis an industry-led effort that offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will progress through technology readiness levels through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization.
About NGIF Accelerator NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital and operates all of the latter organization’s technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It coordinates with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre program.
About Forefront Energy Forefront Energy Ltd. is a Canadian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specializing in clean power and control systems for the oil and gas industry. Based in British Columbia’s Peace Region, the company develops practical, field-ready technologies designed to reduce emissions and improve operational performance for upstream producers across Western Canada.
