NGIF Accelerator Unveils Methane Technology Landscape at the Global Energy Show

CALGARY, AB (June 11, 2026) Yesterday, at the Global Energy Show, NGIF Accelerator (NGIF), with support from the Government of Alberta, officially launched the Methane Technology Landscape, one of the commercialization resource pillars of the Methane Innovation Collaborative (MIC), formerly known as the NGIF ETC Program. The announcement was made by the Honourable Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Alberta, alongside NGIF and key consortium partners.

The Methane Technology Landscape is a global, consolidated database of methane management technologies. It was built to address a common barrier to deployment; proven technologies can struggle to gain traction when decision-makers lack visibility into what it is. By bringing solutions into one accessible resource, the tool helps connect technologies with the operators and investors best positioned to advance them across the natural gas value chain.

The landscape offers a clear, data-backed view of solutions across the natural gas value chain, spanning measurement, monitoring, and reduction. It provides access to methane technologies and helps operators, investors, and policymakers identify solutions they can adopt and deploy.

About the Methane Innovation Collaborative (MIC)
MIC, formerly known as the NGIF ETC Program, is Canada’s largest coordinated effort focused on accelerating methane emissions management technologies. A consortium of NGIF Accelerator, Tourmaline Oil Corp., and the University of Calgary, MIC provides cleantech innovators with a controlled lab environment at the University of Calgary, live field trial capabilities at Tourmaline, and commercialization support from NGIF Accelerator to pilot, validate, and commercialize methane measurement, monitoring, and mitigation technologies.

MIC is currently supported by the Government of Alberta (Environment and Protected Areas).

About NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital and operates all technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It will coordinate with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the Methane Innovation Collaborative.

Trican
Frac pumpers are large fuel consumers that emit large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Current fracturing equipment in Alberta is typically powered by diesel-based or bi-fuel (diesel & natural gas) bolt-on kit (Tier 2) engines. Trican’s Caterpillar Tier 4 Dynamic Gas Blending engine proposes to displace up to 85% of diesel with natural gas. The goal of field testing at ETC is to understand the performance of the Tier 4 Engines during operations in Canada. This includes, but is not limited to, diesel displacement performance during seasonal conditions, validation of the low emissions fracturing spread, and emissions performance compared to diesel and Tier 2 enginess.
