CALGARY, AB (January 13): NGIF Accelerator (NGIF) and the North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative (NAGHPC) have partnered to accelerate the development, market transformation, and adoption of gas heat pump (GHP) technologies across Canada and the United States. The collaboration will focus on near-commercial or commercially available technologies with the goal of speeding their market entry and expanding uptake.
The partnership is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a framework for collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two organizations.

About the Collaboration
Together, NGIF and NAGHPC will identify technology gaps, share global innovations and market insights, leverage resources to support adoption, unlock funding opportunities, and drive market transformation, helping build a more efficient and resilient energy ecosystem.
Potential areas of collaboration include: identifying market gaps; coordination on industry, public, and private funding; engaging stakeholders; sharing technical expertise; and conducting outreach at the provincial/state, national, and international levels.
Through this partnership, NGIF and NAGHPC aim to unlock the full potential of gas heat pumps, supporting innovation, improving efficiency, and advancing a lower-emissions future for the energy sector.
“NGIF Accelerator is proud to partner with the North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative to advance the commercialization and adoption of gas heat pump technologies across North America,” said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Accelerator. “By leveraging our combined expertise and resources, we aim to drive innovation, accelerate market readiness, and support the transition to a more efficient and lower-emissions energy ecosystem.”
“The North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative is committed to fostering gas heat pump market adoption in the U.S. and Canada. One of the key barriers that the Collaborative has identified is funding for the many burgeoning gas heat pump manufacturers in North America and beyond,” said Alan Garcia, Chair, North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative. “We are excited to develop this relationship with NGIF so that individual collaborative members—and other entities—are able to pool resources and help overcome this key market adoption hurdle.”
About Industry Grants program
The Industry Grants program is an industry-led effort that offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will progress through technology readiness levels through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization.
About NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital and operates all of the latter organization’s technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It coordinates with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre program.
About North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative
The North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative is made up of 17 gas and dual-fuel utilities and energy efficiency program administrators who recognize gas heat pump technologies play an important role: by promoting the technologies, the NAGHPC educates stakeholders and accelerates adoption to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The Collaborative’s mission is to make Gas heat Pumps (GHPs) a standard offering through utility programs and incentives, to support GHP manufacturers and trade networks, to create consistent messaging and specifications on GHPs, and to support GHP inclusion in codes and standards. Ultimately, the NAGHPC drives gas heat pump market transformation and speeds the commercialization of GHP technologies, paving the way for a more efficient energy future.
