TORONTO, ON (July 21, 2026): NGIF Accelerator (NGIF) is proud to announce the successful completion of Enersion’s innovative project. Supported by NGIF’s industry grant funding of $300,000, the project demonstrates a leap forward in sustainable energy solutions, showcasing a natural gas-powered tri-generation system that achieves a 39% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Enersion, backed by NGIF’s key industry partners, including ATCO, Enbridge, PNG, and SaskEnergy, embarked on a mission to develop and demonstrate a green, cost-effective tri-generation system to produce electricity, cooling, and heating for a farm in Alberta, utilizing natural gas as an environmentally friendly energy source.
The project’s core innovation lies in Enersion’s adsorption cooling technology, a nanotechnology-based chiller that harnesses waste heat from a combined heat and power (CHP) unit to produce cooling without synthetic refrigerants. The system was successfully deployed at Hart Land Farming, fully integrating with an existing CHP unit.
The innovative chiller exceeded expectations, achieving an 89% reduction in electricity consumption for cooling and providing chilled water at 7°C. The system delivered these results at an estimated annual natural gas savings of 53,915 m³ and an annual GHG emissions reduction, corresponding to an 87% reduction compared to conventional methods.

“Supporting innovations like Enersion’s tri-generation system project exemplifies how strategic funding can deliver environmental benefits, cost savings, and economic growth for the energy industry,” said John Adams, CEO of NGIF Accelerator. “Through our Industry Grants program, NGIF Accelerator helps de-risk emerging technologies through field trials and pilot projects, accelerating industry validation, customer adoption, and commercialization.”
“Enersion is deeply thankful to the NGIF team for their support through this grant. Commercializing deep technologies—especially those in the hardware space—is extraordinarily challenging, and progress is simply not possible without the backing of industry partners and organizations like NGIF. This funding has enabled Enersion to make significant advancements in our commercialization efforts, and we sincerely appreciate NGIF’s commitment to helping Canadian innovation move forward,” said Hanif Montazeri, CEO of Enersion
With this successful demonstration reaching Technology Readiness Level 8 (TRL 8), Enersion is poised to scale its nanotechnology-based chiller for commercial deployment. The company envisions manufacturing and selling these systems directly through its channel partners.
Industry Grants’ Participants and Project Partners

About Industry Grants program
The Industry Grants program is an industry-led effort that offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will progress through technology readiness levels through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization.
About NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital and operates all of the latter organization’s technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It coordinates with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the Methane Innovation Collaborative.
