CALGARY, AB (January 16, 2025): NGIF Accelerator is proud to announce the completion of Kuva Systems’ (Kuva) project on demonstrating methane imaging, detection, quantification, work order deployment, and repair validation for gas wells and gas plants. The project outcome has successfully improved methane emissions monitoring in Canada’s natural gas industry and worldwide.
A collaborative initiative with Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), the $360,000 project showcased Kuva’s relocatable, continuous, camera-based monitoring system for quantifying tank-related emissions for short-term deployments. Field testing occurred at oil and gas sites (including remote sites) in Alberta and BC, and the quantification algorithms for individual emission events were demonstrated.
Kuva is a US- and Calgary-based company focused on making emissions measurable and manageable. The company’s patented non-thermal infrared cameras, combined with cloud monitoring solutions, allow for timely detection and investigation of methane leaks, enhancing operational efficiencies for upstream and midstream oil and gas companies and helping them realize their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals and ensuring regulatory compliance.

“With the support of NGIF Accelerator, Kuva deployed their continuous detection technology at over 40 sites, benefiting major players in the natural gas industry. We believe in cleantech innovation that helps our industry not only meet but exceed environmental expectations,” said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Accelerator. “Our Industry Grants program and its focus on de-risking clean technologies through field trials and pilots are part of NGIF’s integrated model of industry validation, customer creation, and technology commercialization.”
“We are grateful for the support we’ve received from NGIF in our mission to automate emissions detection and analysis. Our collaboration with NGIF and its industry partners was a key step in refining our low-cost methane imaging solution where today, we enable field teams to quickly and effectively solve methane and VOC emission challenges. Together, we’re making significant strides toward a more efficient and sustainable future,” said Stefan Bokaemper, CEO, Kuva Systems.
“Canadians want and need the affordable, reliable, clean energy service offering they have come to expect from the natural gas industry. When we created NGIF, it was our vision to bring the entire natural gas value chain together to support cleantech development that enhances environmental and economic performance for the sector. I am glad to see our vision in action as NGIF continues to support technologies like Kuva’s methane monitoring technology,” said Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO, Canadian Gas Association and Chair, NGIF Capital Corporation.
Industry Grants’ Participants and Project Partners

About Industry Grants program
The Industry Grants program is industry-led and offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will accelerate technology readiness level progressions through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization.
About NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator is the not-for-profit arm of NGIF Capital and operates all technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It will coordinate with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre program.
About Kuva Systems
