Today the Natural Gas Innovation Fund™ (NGIF) announces the opening of a $3 million funding call for cleantech technology solutions to assist with the development and production of natural gas (upstream sector) in Canada. The call is targeted to advance technologies that will enable natural gas producers to build on their ever-improving environmental performance.

Birchcliff Energy Ltd., Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Chevron Canada Limited, Perpetual Energy Inc., PETRONAS Energy Canada Ltd., Shell Canada Energy, and Tourmaline Oil Corp. are the investing entities.  NGIF is making up to $1 million in non-dilutive funding available per project, representing as much as 25 per cent of a project’s eligible expenses. The call is directed at small to medium enterprises and technology development start-ups from anywhere in the world to advance cleantech innovation through a project here in Canada.

Interested applicants should download the Applicant’s Guide online, which provides information on investment priorities, eligible expenses, and conditions on funding.  Applicants must submit their expression of interest at application@ngif.ca by December 19, 2019. More information on the Natural Gas Innovation Fund and how to apply can be found at www.ngif.ca.

NGIF’s Cleantech Competition for the production of natural gas is aligned with Emissions Reduction Alberta’s (ERA’s) Natural Gas Challenge.  The program is seeking innovative technology solutions that reduce GHG emissions across Alberta’s natural gas value chain, including upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. As trusted partners, ERA and NGIF work together to explore opportunities to co-fund projects, to reduce the administrative burden for applicants, and to provide innovators with access to potential industry partners.
