Emissions
Testing Centre Program

Supporting the development and demonstration of clean technology to reduce methane emissions.

Overview

Emissions Testing Centre Program is a plug-and-play platform offered to cleantech startups to validate and test their methane emissions innovation through a project in a simulated laboratory environment and live industrial gas operations.

Emissions Testing Centre program selected cleantech startups access NGIF financing, a university laboratory and a live industrial operating site for validation.
  • Intake: NGIF evaluates startups for eligibility and develops a project opportunity for the testing centre.
  • University host site: University of Calgary Research Centre hosts laboratories for controlled testing of startups and a data portal.
  • Live industrial host site: Tourmaline Oil Corp./Perpetual Energy Inc. West Wolf Lake Gas Plant hosts live testing of startups including a network of upstream wellsite facilities and D&C operations.
  • Data and reporting: NGIF supports a series of data/outcome reports for the startup to use to accelerate their commercialization.
The Emissions Testing Centre program will see emissions detection, quantification, and reductions through multiple tech startup validation, while also creating benchmarking data and a research talent pool for the natural gas industry.
