NGIF Accelerator Releases 2025 Performance Report for NGIF Emissions Testing Centre Program

May 28, 2026

CALGARY, AB (May 28, 2026) Today, NGIF Accelerator released its 2025 NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) performance report, highlighting a transformative year in which the program evolved into an end-to-end solution platform including simulation testing, live field testing, and full commercialization support for methane reduction technologies.

The NGIF ETC program offers cleantech startups a rare combination: free access to lab and field-testing infrastructure, backed by the expertise of the University of Calgary and the operational reach of Tourmaline Oil. In 2025, the program took the next major step by integrating rigorous technical validation with NGIF Accelerator’s commercialization framework to actively move proven technologies into the market.

The result is a platform that goes beyond testing. It connects innovators with industry operators, potential customers, and investors, helping Alberta’s most promising methane reduction solutions, including detection cameras, perimeter monitoring, and vent reduction systems, reach the scale needed to make a measurable environmental impact.

“We are not just demonstrating that these technologies work; we are accelerating their path to commercialization,” said John Adams, CEO and President of NGIF Accelerator. “Our goal is to ensure innovators succeed in the market by connecting them with the right partners, networks, and opportunities for visibility. By advancing these solutions today, we are laying the groundwork for Alberta to become a global leader in methane technology for years to come.”

We are also thankful to the Government of Alberta for its ongoing funding support, which has been instrumental in advancing the commercialization of these technologies.

About the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre Program
The NGIF Emissions Testing Centre Program involves collaboration between industry, academia, and government. It involves public support to ensure cleantech companies have a dedicated space to develop, test, and field-validate technologies to measure, monitor, and reduce methane emissions and to fast-track methane technologies to market through knowledge dissemination and fostering commercialization. The program is unique in that it provides cleantech companies with free access to testing and commercialization support for rapid scale-up of technologies from concept to commercial-ready deployment. The program’s lab at the University of Calgary provides capabilities to test and de-risk technologies in a controlled environment, complemented by live field trials at the West Wolf Lake Gas Plant (jointly owned by Tourmaline Oil Corp. and Rubellite Energy), along with other Tourmaline assets. The NGIF Accelerator supports technology developers in scaling up by disseminating knowledge and providing commercialization support.

The NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) program is currently supported by the Government of Alberta (Environment and Protected Areas), whose funding enables the testing and commercialization of methane reduction technologies. This public support ensures the technology providers have the resources and infrastructure to advance innovative solutions that measure, monitor, and reduce methane emissions while accelerating their path to market adoption.

Trican
Frac pumpers are large fuel consumers that emit large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Current fracturing equipment in Alberta is typically powered by diesel-based or bi-fuel (diesel & natural gas) bolt-on kit (Tier 2) engines. Trican’s Caterpillar Tier 4 Dynamic Gas Blending engine proposes to displace up to 85% of diesel with natural gas. The goal of field testing at ETC is to understand the performance of the Tier 4 Engines during operations in Canada. This includes, but is not limited to, diesel displacement performance during seasonal conditions, validation of the low emissions fracturing spread, and emissions performance compared to diesel and Tier 2 enginess.
