John was appointed Managing Director, Natural Gas Innovation Fund (NGIF) in 2016, launched by the Canadian Gas Association. In his role as the fund manager, John is accountable to the fund’s governance committees and to the fund’s lifecycle, including raising capital from strategic and institutional investors, capital calls, deal flow generation and review, technical and venture due diligence and evaluation, selecting and making investments, portfolio monitoring and investment support, follow-on investments, and exits; and leads a team of dynamic individuals with subject matter expertise in cleantech, gas operations, business, and venture management.
John brings 30 years of experience in the cleantech energy sector with his current position at NGIF. John is currently a member of the Clean Resources Innovation Network (CRIN) Board of Directors and serves on the CRIN Finance and Audit Committee; the Natural Gas Technology Centre Board of Directors; and the International Gas Union, Research, Development, and Innovation Committee. Prior to his current position, he served as Vice President, Industry and held a number of roles at Sustainable Development Technology Canada for a total of 5 years.
John earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto in Environmental Science and is a graduate of the Berkley Venture Capital Executive Program.
