NGIF ACCELERATOR LAUNCHES CLEANTECH CHALLENGE FOCUSED ON CCUS, METHANE MANAGEMENT, ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RESILIENCY, AND RNG

September 12, 2024

VANCOUVER, BC (September 12, 2024): Today, NGIF Accelerator announced the launch of a $5MM (CAD) CLEANTECH CHALLENGE at the Low Carbon Business Action (LCBA) Canada Phase II launch event in Vancouver. The Challenge, administered through the Industry Grants Program, is focused on four strategic areas: Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), Methane Management (Measurement, Quantification, and Mitigation), Energy Efficiency and Resiliency, and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG).

The Cleantech Challenge is a global funding call for technologies that can support emissions reduction efforts across the natural gas value chain in Canada. It is offering up to $500,000 CAD per project in non-dilutive grant funding, representing as much as 50% of a project’s eligible expenses.

In addition to this, NGIF Accelerator’s funding provides each finalist access to market through its 14 industry participants, allowing them to receive valuable market insights from prospective customers and have opportunities to demonstrate their technologies at host sites specifically related to natural gas production.

NGIF Accelerator is currently accepting applications from global small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups with the following characteristics:

  • Novel technologies with solutions in the key strategic areas to support enhancing the natural gas industry’s environmental and economic performance.
  • Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 or higher will be considered.
  • SMEs that are non-subsidiary, independent technology development firms that employ fewer than 500 employees.

OR

  • Technology development startups that are non-subsidiary, independent technology development firms that employ fewer than 100 employees, generate less than CAD $25 million in annual revenues, and are focused on developing and scaling up pre-commercial technologies.

“We are excited to launch this Cleantech Challenge, making a significant funding contribution to the future of clean technology and emissions reduction. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to advancing innovative solutions across the natural gas sector, from upstream production to downstream applications,” said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Accelerator. “Our Industry Grants program, which focuses on de-risking clean technologies through field trials and pilots, is part of NGIF’s integrated model of industry validation, customer creation, and technology commercialization.”

“Innovation has always been front and centre for the natural gas industry in Canada. Committing $5 million to this competition is the latest demonstration of this focus and the determination to keep the industry in the lead on the global innovation agenda for energy,” said Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO, Canadian Gas Association and Chair, NGIF Capital Corporation.
